Last Monday (no this isn’t timely; my posts never are) I had the special treat of speaking to Robert French’s new crop of social media students. In addition making digital social media resumes, learning to podcast/videocast and writing for their group blog The Loveliest Village, they will be encouraged to participate in the social media/PR blogging community by reading and commenting on other blogs. (You can read all about what social media bootcamp was like back when I did it, if you’re really curious.)

This week they’ll start blogging and (ideally) reading and commenting - who knows…maybe even twittering. Robert will undoubtedly give them a great list of social media leaders to keep an eye on, plus they’ll have Marcom and its awesome contributors. That’ll surely keep them plenty busy. But just in case this class has some budding social media stars, who might want to go above and beyond, who might be taking this class really seriously, who might be reading right now…

I give you my personal picks. Some of my favorite young PR (yes, he’s one of them) bloggers, that no student feed reader should be without. These are bloggers to admire, emulate, learn from and (most importantly) connect with - they were in your shoes not that long ago. Go ahead, don’t be scared, link, comment, follow on twitter; that’s what all this social media stuff is about. Auburn students (and any other students who still read), meet some of my favorite social media personalities (and friends):

Flackette - Marie Williams

PR Blogger - Stephen Davies

Some Sangs - Kait Swanson

Observations of Public Relations - Luke Armour

Sandying - Sandy Kalik

Contributing Comments - Mike Denton

BlogString - Sarah Wurrey and Nathan Burke

Fake Plastic Noodles - Melanie Seasons

Young PR - Paull Young

If you’re looking for a more comprehensive list of PR bloggers, young and…umm…old not quite as young, Paull and Constantin keep one at the New PR Wiki (no doubt I’ve left some excellent ones out).

Happy reading ya’ll.

Sorry I can’t see anything for the dust and cobwebs, Christi.

I think it mentions my name, so thanks! :-)

Thanks Christi! I am adding them all to my feeder now!

    Hey Christi!

Thanks for the mention! For some reason it didn’t show up in my Wordpress incoming links until today, or I’d have been here sooner. Hope all is well, and also that you’re not freezing your petuttie off over there ;-)

    Christi,

I feel you on the timeliness issue–example #1 being my belated comment on your post. ;) Thank you so much for the mention. I’ve been wondering where all those Twitter adds are coming from! It’s great to see so many young PRs joining the Twitter force.

Thanks for the suggestions and for talking with our class! Every little bit of advice for us social media newbies helps! I’ll definitely check these out.

Thanks for the list Christi! As a PR student at University of Georgia I took a social media class last semester and loved it. I follow a few of those blogs already, but it is great to get a couple fresh blogs I can start keeping up with!

Stephen- Keep those snarky comments up and there’s a good chance this dusty blog won’t be mentioning you again! (hahah too bad my links don’t mean a thing to your rankings ;) )

Amelia,Holmeja, Anna- you’re so welcome! I look forward to seeing what ya’ll write/tweet in the coming weeks. This is the perfect way to make a name for yourself and get the attention of employers; take full advantage of that.

Robert- Of course :) Thought I’d give them a few suggestions in addition to the great blogs that I’m sure you’ve told them to read. I’m also hoping they’ll follow some of these people twitter and get their networking on.

Lauren- Glad I mentioned some you didn’t know about. Bulldogs always welcome here; you UGA girls are a smart bunch

Melanie, Marie- Of course I mentioned you, how could I not? Mel, I am definitely freezing my petuttie off :)

This showed up in my feed reader while I was on vacation, so I’m only seeing it now! :-( Thanks for the mention.

Also, to add another option to the mix–take a look at Amanda Gravel’s Social Honeycomb. She’s right on the intersection of social media and PR and she’s recent grad turned working professional (like the rest of us).
